Community in Need Aid South Sudan

Compelled by compassion to step out for the cause of children and families affected by conflicts and disasters in South Sudan, Community in Need Aid (CINA), is mandated to save lives, protect dignity and build a future for South Sudanese children and families beyond conflicts and disasters.

CINA South Sudan, established in 2010, is a non-political, non-profit, national humanitarian and development organization, with headquarters in Juba. CINA is legally registered by South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC). Since then the work has grown considerably and CINA South Sudan has expanded to work in Jonglei, Lakes, Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria states of South Sudan, with over 45 employees and 60 volunteers, and is working strategically and focused within the areas of integrated health, education, livelihood and nutrition and protection. We earnestly work based on the following core values;

'From the heart of humanity

CINA mainly targets children/youth (0-5; 6-12; 13-18, 19-24) and their families (parents, foster parents, caregivers, household members, child and women headed households, community change-makers and community stakeholders) affected by conflict and disasters.

Integrated Health

Promote child and family health and wellbeing through provision of basic package of primary health care (PHC) services (including running of PHCCs/PHCUs and mobile clinics); Integrated community case management (ICCM) services; Immunization programmes; Reproductive health and family planning; Community health promotion at Boma levels (Boma Health Initiative); provision of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and safe Water Hygiene and Sanitation in the health facilities, schools and in the communities.

Integrated Education

Promote and support universal primary education for children affected by conflicts and disasters through girls’ capitation fees, teacher development and quality education, school PTA/SMC development, food for education (school feeding program); alternative learning programs for youth and women; as well as supporting non-formal education through Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) for youth and families. To safeguard against child abuse and exploitation in schools, CINA supports adherence to school child safeguarding policy and integration of life skills development for adolescents, psychosocial support and child protection help desks into education program.

Integrated Livelihood and Nutrition

Prevent malnutrition through emergency food distribution, diseases prevention, and behaviour change communication to pregnant/lactating mothers and families affected by conflicts and disasters. Respond to acute malnutrition through running of community therapeutic feeding programs and stabilization centres for malnourished children. Support agricultural food production and livelihood resilience for self-reliance through provision of seeds, farm tools, building of farmers’ capacity (demos farms), development of community livelihood initiatives such as ‘Village Banks’ (village savings & loans associations), food processing, fish processing, beekeeping, milk processing, hides & skins processing, as well as supporting farmers’ cooperative groups through maintainance of tractors, and preposition of fuel, food storage facilities, linkages to markets and provision of food for assets.

Integrated Protection

CINA promote integrated child protection interventions such as provision of Family Tracing and Reunification (FTR) services, Psychosocial Support for children, adolescents and caregivers, prevention and response to GBV against children and women, reintegration of children released by armed forces/groups and children in conflict with law, as well as providing integrated protection case management, integrated protection assessments, protection analyses and advocacy on rights violations and violence against children and women.

Community Ownership

CINA believes in community involvement as a way of creating a supportive environment for their full participation and shall empowerchildren and youth, families and communities to develop knowledge and skills that will enable them take decisions in respect to their lives, dignity and future.

Solidarity and diversity

We are all part of one human family, accepting one another and living together, whatever our ethnic, national, racial, religious, economic or ideological differences. In an increasingly interconnected world, ‘loving our neighbour’ has global dimensions. In terms of service delivery, we provide diverse services in holistic manner.

Transparency, accountability and integrity

CINA is ever guided by the principle of ‘saying and doing the right thing’. We demonstrate honesty and trustworthiness at all stages of service delivery to our community in need and to our partners. We speak and take actions against all forms of fraud, abuse and exploitation.

Voluntary Service

CINA is a voluntary organization not prompted in any manner by desire for gain. As volunteers, members understand the risks and dangers of the missions they carry out and make no claim for themselves or their assigns for any form of compensation other than that which the organization might be able to afford them.

Impartiality and independence.

CINA shall operate independent of, and shall make no discrimination as to any nationality, race, religious beliefs, class, military or political opinion and delivering services to individuals and community is informed solely by their needs.

To add value to our work, CINA remains productive, creative and ethical. Together with our policy-makers, employees and partners, we embark on improving organizational performance, quality of services and change of behaviour.
